Hello and welcome to Field Tech Forum! Feel free to introduce yourself and share whatever you feel comfortable with and maybe give us a sense of why you're here and what your vibe is like.

First! I hope that's not too Reddit-y, King. :D My name is...uh... ScurvyBrother, I'm in my mid-twenties from Loudon County, Virginia (near-ish to DC) and just getting started in the field tech game. Stumbled across this site and decided to be a pioneer like a true biology technician. Hoping to chat with some cool non-traditional folks and learn some tricks of the trade.

Welcome ScurvyBrother! When you got to this site did you.... Sign In Stranger? ;)

I'd say the "first" is more of a YouTube thing and seems harmless enough to me and appropriate enough in this case. Thanks for reading the rules. I hope others will follow your example.

It might just be you and me for awhile, but here's hoping that it's the start of the community that biology field techs need and deserve!

Cool man. Good to see that there's still some education for music out there - I'm a fair amount older than you are. I saw them three times with Becker but I've been listening to those albums pretty consistently for close to 30 years at this point. I know the words to most of the songs. Royal Scam is sometimes (maybe usually) my favorite when it's not Aja.

In fact, it reminds me of my last drive out of a pretty gnarly field season. I was about 5 or 6 hours from where I lived at the time and I rocked those albums in chronological order the whole way. It was one of those situations where I needed something I knew I loved. Also I may be one of the few people on Earth who listens to it for running. I did Countdown to Ecstasy and Royal Scam for a 10K recently and I was feeling pretty euphoric by the end.

Hope I'm not crashing the party here, but jumping right in. I'm Todd (in case you didn't guess) - I'm an old hand, I've been in the field tech game for quite a few years now. I originally hail from Poughkeepsie, NY (go Renegades). Looking to see what this place is all about. If we build it they will come, I hope.

Welcome! And not crashing at all. Increased the site membership by 50% in one fell swoop. That will never happen again. You seem like a baseball kinda guy, lightning and baseball don't really mix well, no?

Hey duuudes! Looking to chill with my field tech crew. Well, my online crew anyway. I've been doing forestry for three years and that's it for me. Let me be out in the woods all day checkin out the birds and whatever. Love me some trees if you know what I mean  Lol that icon is named Mr. Green. I might use that for myself. Blaze on brothas!

Uh...welcome...maan. Seriously, glad to have you, but once the Jobs part of this board gets going don't you think that might, I don't know, give pause to some of the people looking for techs? Makes no difference to me though.

Eh, I mean I don't really follow it much anymore. Used to play in high school (2nd base and outfield). I'm much more into sports analogies. But I'd be down for a Field Tech Forum softball league someday.

So I thought about this a bit more, are you operating a chain saw while you're high? Don't you work with a lot of good old boy types in forestry? Seems like it wouldn't really be their cup of tea.

I don't, but so what if I did? I can (and do) operate a car just fine all the time. A chain saw just has a little bitty motor. I'm a big strong boy, so those good ole boys like me just fine. Besides, I grew up hunting and fishing, can talk knowledgeably about guns so that's pretty much all it takes.

Hi everyone. I'm 27 and I'm ready for a major life change. I was on track for a pretty successful corporate career, but it just wears on me psychologically so much. I can't bear the pettiness, superficiality, backstabbing and all of that. I don't want to deal with greed and insensitivity and on top of that all my objections to the waste from an environmental standpoint.

I've always enjoyed hiking and camping and being in nature and I have nothing to tie me down in terms of family or relationships. I'm ready to sell and give away a bunch of stuff and hit the road. I'm really fascinated by what I've read about the field tech lifestyle so far and I think it's something I'm ready to pursue. I love the idea of working outside and working with like minded people who I expect are a lot different from my cubicle neighbors. I'm a bit concerned with my lack of experience though.

I'll be looking for advice here, but in the meantime I hope you don't mind a sub-rookie joining you and talking about this and that.

Welcome. I think you'll find many others with similar stories. Although our numbers are small for now, I have no doubt you'll get some good advice on where to begin and how to proceed. I'll also be chiming in when I have time to do so. Also be sure to share your thoughts on Steely Dan if you dare!

Hey everyone. Shouting out from Southern Cali - born and raised near LA. Which is why I love getting out in the field! I try to do all my fieldwork here or in other parts of the west that are close by. Even here in SoCal there's so much public land and land and wildlife management going on. I'm liking the vibe here so far and I hope to make some good contributions and "meet" some cool peeps.
