Music for the road, that's one thing but ultimately it's just whatever you like the most. The real challenge (or skill) is choosing some music for the times when you're hanging out with a bunch of new people early on. This requires some Dj ability and there's some finesse required here. What kind of music works for everyone or at least is most likely to?
Jazz and classical is pretty much out, any crazy prog metal or whatever. You're pretty much limited to some variation of rock along with your folky bluegrass kind of stuff. But you gotta be careful. No one's going to want to hear Radiohead or pre-Dark Side era Floyd kind of stuff.
